Selling gift vouchers is a brilliant way to bring in extra revenue, and I’m guessing most of you already have an online gift voucher system set up and ticking away in the background.

Think about what your guests actually love. What packages or experiences are the most popular? Make sure these are featured clearly on your gift voucher site.

Things like Sunday lunch, afternoon tea, a round of golf, or your best-selling overnight stay package.

Monetary vouchers are great, but experiences tend to sell better. So highlight what makes your hotel special and offer those as beautifully packaged gift ideas.

Not every gift needs to be big. Think a glass of Prosecco and a slice of cake, or a bottle of beer and a pizza. These small experiences that make great gifts for teachers, birthdays, or just thoughtful little treats.

Bundle them up nicely and you’ve got a low-cost, high-margin voucher people will love to give.

Want to give sales a quick boost? Run a limited-time voucher that’s only valid for a short period.

For example: An Autumn Spa Day that includes half-day access, a treatment, and a seasonal drink - offered at 20% off the usual price.

Set a clear redemption deadline (e.g. 90 days) and explain the terms clearly to guests.

With average redemption rates around 80%, this kind of offer helps you compete with platforms like Groupon, but without the commission fees.

People are always celebrating something; birthdays, anniversaries, thank yous.
So keep your social media ticking over with posts showcasing your best-selling gift experiences. It doesn’t have to be hard-sell, just make sure you’re always reminding people that your gift vouchers exist and are perfect for almost any occasion.

It’s worth spending a small budget on social advertising for these campaigns too to keep your posts in front of people with birthdays in the next few months etc.

Make sure you have links on your Instagram highlights too, promoting your best selling vouchers.

While guests are onsite and in a relaxed mindset, make it super easy for them to buy a voucher. Pop up tent cards, posters, or table signs with a QR code linking to your voucher site.

You could even offer a 10% discount if they purchase while they’re there. It's a great way to catch guests in the moment.

Christmas, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s, Father’s Day - the big seasonal moments can bring a huge spike in voucher sales.

But don’t forget the smaller ones too: End-of-summer treats, payday specials, or autumn experiences can all nudge people into buying.

Here’s a great one for busy periods like Christmas or Valentine’s:

Send a follow-up offer to those who’ve already bought a voucher. A thank-you message with an exclusive discount to purchase another can work brilliantly, and it won’t annoy them, since they’re being treated as loyal customers.

Plus, it’s a great nudge to buy a second voucher (maybe even for themselves this time).

Make sure your gift vouchers are super visible on your site. Got an afternoon tea page? Add a link that says “Buy as a Gift Voucher.”
Same for your spa days, Sunday lunches, or overnight stays.

Sometimes people land on your main product pages looking for a gift and you can help them get there with one easy click.

Take time to make sure your gift voucher site looks and feels like the rest of your hotel’s brand. Use your best imagery, check the guest journey is smooth, and make sure it’s easy to:

  • Understand what they’re buying
  • Purchase for different group sizes (e.g. 3 guests instead of just 2)
  • Add personal touches or messages

Try going through the process yourself. Would you feel confident buying it as a gift?
